Is Dungeon Settlers Multiplayer? Co-op and Online Explained
Dungeon Settlers is single-player. What the Steam feature tags actually say, why the four-settler party is not co-op, and whether multiplayer could arrive later.
No. Dungeon Settlers is single-player. There is no co-op, no PvP and no online multiplayer mode.
That is not a guess from pre-release footage. The Steam listing, checked on September 1, 2026, tags the game with exactly three features:
| Feature tag | Present |
|---|---|
| Single-player | Yes |
| Steam Cloud | Yes |
| Family Sharing | Yes |
| Multiplayer / Co-op / PvP | Not listed |
On Steam, co-op and multiplayer are their own feature tags, and a game that supports them says so. Their absence is the answer.
Why so many people ask
Two reasons, and both are reasonable.
The genre invites the question. Colony sims and dungeon crawlers both have strong co-op traditions, and Dungeon Settlers sits on top of both. If you came to it from a co-op base builder, multiplayer is the natural assumption.
The party system also reads like co-op from a distance. You take up to four settlers into a dungeon — but you control all four. Those are your characters, not four seats for four players.
What "single-player" actually means here
- You run the whole settlement. Production, research, farming and building are all yours to direct. Nobody is managing a wing of the base for you.
- You run the whole party. All four expedition members are under your control, in real-time tactical combat you can pause.
- Steam Cloud is not multiplayer. It syncs your saves between your own machines. It does not let two people share a settlement.
- Family Sharing is not multiplayer. It lets other people on your account's family play the game — one at a time, in their own save.
Could co-op be added during Early Access?
The developer has published what they plan to add during Early Access: more regions, monsters, weapons, skills, races and events, plus combat balance, UI/UX, optimisation, localisation, and modding support with Steam Workshop.
Multiplayer is not on that list. Early Access runs for an estimated two years and plans can change, but as things stand there is nothing announced that would make this a co-op game. Treat anyone claiming otherwise as speculating until the developer says so.
Mods are planned, and that is a different thing
Steam Workshop support is on the roadmap. Mod tools sometimes lead to community multiplayer attempts in single-player games, but that is a long way from a supported feature, and nothing about it has been promised. Do not buy the game expecting it.
If you wanted co-op specifically
Then this is the wrong game, and it is better to know that before buying than after. What Dungeon Settlers offers instead is depth in the two things it does do: a settlement that has to sustain itself, and expeditions where losing a settler is permanent. Both are built around one person holding the whole picture.
If that still sounds appealing, the beginner guide covers how the loop fits together, and the expedition planner is where you work out what a four-settler party should carry.
