Dungeon Settlers FAQ

Questions before buying and during your first Early Access sessions. Community discussions help us choose topics; answers below use official sources, with practical reporting advice identified separately.

PRE-EAGame version Pre-EALast checked 2026-09-04Official store and developer statements; check dates below
Has Dungeon Settlers launched in Early Access?
Yes. Steam offered Dungeon Settlers for purchase when we checked on September 4, 2026 at 08:23 UTC, and the developer published an Early Access launch announcement. The announced launch time was 08:00 UTC, moved forward from September 10, 2026. Store availability is confirmed; this site has not tested the released build. Release date and launch time →
Can I focus only on base-building and skip the dungeons?
The developer describes settlement management and dungeon expeditions as interdependent: dungeon resources help expand the settlement, which equips and supports the next party. Plan for both parts of the loop, not a purely self-contained colony sandbox. The developer's older Reddit explanation supports that design, but does not establish a separate sandbox mode or a sustainable no-expedition strategy in the Early Access build. Developer explanation of the game loop →
Is Dungeon Settlers turn-based, or can I pause combat?
The official Steam description says combat runs in real time and can be paused at any moment to plan your tactics. It is not a turn-based system. You direct your party, considering positioning, enemy behavior and skill timing. This answers the combat-format question; it does not establish the same campaign depth or experience as a particular CRPG. Read the official combat description →
Is Dungeon Settlers multiplayer or co-op?
No. The Steam listing describes a single-player game, and the official roadmap Q&A says multiplayer is not expected for Dungeon Settlers. The larger expedition limits announced in v0.4.23 are character slots, not player slots or co-op support. Why people ask, and what could change →
Is there a demo?
Not any more. The developer announced the demo's removal on 2026-08-20 and it stopped being playable on 2026-08-27, on the grounds that it no longer accurately represented the Early Access version. The Steam store lists no demo as of 2026-09-04. Why it was pulled, and what it means for old guides →
Does Dungeon Settlers work on Steam Deck?
Valve reviewed it and gave it a Playable rating, not Verified. It runs, with four flagged issues: non-Deck controller icons, manual on-screen keyboard for text entry, small in-game text, and native resolution not set by default. The developer says the Deck is not officially supported yet. What Playable means in practice →
How much content is in the Early Access version?
The official Steam description lists the core gameplay loop and the first 2 dungeon regions. Earlier announcements also describe the Abyss. The roadmap plans 6 regions by full release. These are developer statements, not features verified by this site in an installed build. Launch scope versus roadmap plans →
Is there an official Dungeon Settlers roadmap?
Yes. The September 4 launch announcement links an updated public roadmap with known issues and planned improvements. We read it that day: Update 4 still targets Q4 2026, version 1.0 is estimated for Q3 2028, and Updates 5 and 6 have no dates shown. These are developer plans and reports, not guaranteed dates or our own build tests. Read the official roadmap summary →
Will my saves survive updates?
Compatibility is not guaranteed. The developer's earlier demo warning says major updates may break saves. In v0.4.17, save-version warnings appear only when loading a different version series, such as v0.3.x to v0.4.x. This changes when the warning appears; absence of a warning does not establish guaranteed compatibility. We have not tested save migration in the released build. Current patch notes and the earlier save warning →
Can I lock professions while rerolling starting characters?
The September 6 v0.4.19 notes add individual locks in Expedition Founding for portraits, ability stats, Major Traits (which determine skill trees) and Sub Traits. Those concern starting characters. Separately, the September 12 v0.4.23 patch makes Lock Consecration Results a setting on every Management Difficulty, adjustable during a campaign. This site has checked the official statements but has not tested the controls. Character-generation feedback and original source →
What if a settler gets trapped after construction?
The September 4 roadmap suggests Emergency Escape for a trapped unit. The October 10 v0.4.29 notes improve units leaving work positions blocked by newly constructed walls. That specific fix does not establish that every trapping, hauling or storage-priority problem is resolved. The suggestion and patch claim are developer sources; this site has not reproduced them. Developer-listed issues and interim suggestions →
How can I reposition furniture?
In a September 4, 2026, 11:00 UTC Steam reply, developer-marked Quester suggests pressing V to enter dismantle mode, dismantling furniture and rebuilding it where wanted. The reply says its resources are returned. This site has not tested the procedure or refund. It concerns furniture, not a guarantee for walls, doors or floors, and does not announce a direct move feature. Furniture advice and original developer reply →
Does Dungeon Settlers run on Mac?
Yes. The published minimum specification covers Windows 10 or newer, and macOS 11 Big Sur or newer on both Intel and Apple Silicon. Both need 4 GB of RAM and 2 GB of storage. Full system requirements →
What languages does it support?
The store lists 10 languages: English, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil). The v0.4.12 notes report a fix for Chinese and Japanese unit names when creating an Expedition Team. The October 10 v0.4.29 notes address missing Chinese/Japanese characters, expand CJK font coverage and fix some UI text not resetting on language changes. These are developer-reported fixes; this site has not verified every translation or display issue. Language fix status and official sources →
Does Dungeon Settlers use generative AI?
The developer's Steam disclosure says generative AI was used for localization, with some languages translated or reviewed by human translators. It does not specify which languages used which process. This is the published disclosure, checked September 4, 2026, not an independent audit of the game's translations or assets. Read the AI disclosure on Steam →
Will there be mod support?
It is planned. The official roadmap places a modding beta in Update 5, without a date. The Steam Early Access description also plans Workshop integration. Neither statement confirms that Workshop support is currently available. Modding and other planned updates →
How long will Early Access last?
The Steam description estimates approximately 2 years. The official roadmap gives an estimated Q3 2028 full release. Both are plans that may change, not a fixed completion date.
How much does Dungeon Settlers cost?
At our September 20, 2026 check, the US Steam store listed $24.99 with no discount. The 15% launch discount has ended; the earlier $21.24 introductory price is historical. This is a dated USD snapshot, not a price guarantee for other regions or later visits. Check your live Steam store before buying. Ending the launch discount is separate from the developer's planned price increase at full release; the game remains in Early Access. Check the current Steam price →
Do settlers die permanently?
Yes. Permadeath is part of the design: settlers lost on an expedition are gone, along with the skills they had trained. That is why preparation before a run matters more than it looks. Plan a run before you commit →
Where can I report a bug or give Early Access feedback?
The developer says it gathers feedback through Steam Community and its official Discord. Check the official roadmap's known-issue list first. If your issue is not covered, a useful report includes your game version, platform, language, what you expected, what happened and steps to reproduce it. That checklist is this site's reporting advice, not a developer-mandated format. Do not post private account details in a public thread. Open the Steam discussions →
Is there a Chinese-language feedback group?
In a September 4, 2026, 13:00 UTC Steam reply, Quester, marked as a developer, lists QQ group 1107979788 as the game's official group and suggests sending improvement feedback to its administrators. We verified the public reply, but have not joined or independently checked the group. Confirm the details in the original reply before joining, and do not share private account information. Read the developer's Chinese feedback reply →
